Guess what … I need another hip replacement!
November 14, 2013
True. It seems that in the past 45 days, my right hip has become intolerable. Starting as a painful “catch” when I tried to get out of my pickup truck, it quickly progressed to causing a limp and keeping me awake at night. So, I’m back on Dr. Bradbury’s schedule for a total hip replacement on Dec. 5.
That’s not all that’s falling apart. I need cataract surgery in January. I might as well have good eyes.
Honestly, this last barrage of physical problems has knocked me down somewhat. I thank God for a healthy pulse, and many other things.
One lesson I’ve learned is that “I can’t do it all.” I’m quicker to ask for help than ever before. That’s ok. I’ve always felt somewhat guilty asking someone else to do what I could do for myself. Now, I really need the help often.
My sustaining verse has been, “His grace is sufficient. His strength is made perfect in my weakness.” Paul gloried in his infirmities “that the power of Christ may rest upon (him).”
May I?

Dean, I am sorry to hear of all your health problems or “issues” as everyone says these days. I am pretty thankful as my knee don’t seem to get to the stage you are in. I have just developed a pain in my right shoulder and arm. It is hard playing the dulcimer but not as bad with the violin. I got a shot but has not helped yet. My hearing aids do help a lot with hearing.
On the lighter side, did you hear about the two musicians who met on the street corner, one says “who was that cute little piccallo you were with the other night? The other replied “that was no piccallo that was my “Fife”
Keeping you in my prayers.
Did you read Cal Thomas this week. He mentioned CS Lewis death the same day as Kennedy was shot. Also Alex Huxley, He really bragged up Lewis and quoted Lewis’ most famous quote. I’ll let you look for it. He ignored Huxley though

A song came on the radio today that we did back in the eighties, “In This Room” What great memories it brought back. I was fixing a “clamp on light” I had in my shop and realized it was painted black. We improvised some music stand lights one time. I painted them black for the performance.
With all our physical problems we can remember when we were relatively healthy in our younger years. I think of how much Sharon Miller loved that music and now facing Fred’s situation, how much we have to be thankful for.
See ya

Hey Bob,
Thanks for your comments.
The music from the past I remember most is Messiah.
Also, Living Witnesses.
Health challenges of our age group are getti ng more frequent. A challenge we might end up having is to find gracious ways to discuss them and keep a sense of optimism. Heaven is getting closer. I’m ok with that.

Just wondering how you’re doing a few days post-surgery. Also, remember “His Love Reaching” done at Central Junior High? And all the wonderful Christmas productions in the building that burned! Still makes me almost nauseous to think about that fire.
