Meet Bob!

January 4, 2013

About a week into this journey, I received a call from Bob.

He lives in NJ, is 63 years old, and got my name from an online cancer support organization that I registered with early that morning while researching my condition.

His voice was very chirpy as he introduced himself.  He began telling me how he was diagnosed 4 years ago with “Stage 4” Multiple Myeloma, and that his Dr. said he had never seen bones so bad.  He was immediately started on the same medication(RVD) that I am on.  He also went through a stem cell harvest and implant which he described as very trying.  He is now in total remission with healthy numbers and a normal life.

We have talked twice on the phone (30-40min. ea. time) and have hit it off!  We talk NFL football, education (he’s a regular substitute teacher), grandkids etc.  I so anticipate his calls.  They have become a high point for me.

This is an example of how I have discovered unexpected blessings through this health challenge, for which I am thankful.  Rich and meaningful life opportunities are bursting upon me daily, the kind of chances we pray for to be faithful to the Lord’s calling.

I’m in a good place!
